I think this as well, Honda have release the CR-Z hybrid hot hatch, has about the same power as an 1.6 N/A but returns 60mpg, and they have a hybrid NSX concept in the work where it has a V6 to drive the rear wheels and an electric motor to drive all 4 as a boost. It harvests energy from the inside front wheel when cornering as well to help pull it round a corner.
