I got warned by police fter poisoning my milk at uni as others were stealing it. I claimed i just left out of date milk making them sick and with no evidence they couldnt do anything, but they were adamant that if you deliberately poison even your own food, you can be charged if there is any chance someone else could use it, theft or not.
