Default Where are high performance cars going in the future?

With the threads on diesels and performance on here recently it has got me wondering as to where high performance cars will be heading in the future with everything becoming more environmental and emissions based. Where do we think the future is? There are a number of car makers now downgrading to smaller petrol engines with electric motors giving an extra boot but do we think high performance diesels will be the future?

Undoubtedly, BMW's 3.0 units found in a number of cars and also in twin turbo form like in the 335/535 diesels are INCREDIBLE engines even in stock form, they produce as much power as a standard Evo (280 model) and with massive torque and when mapped can produce over 350bhp which let's be honest is not to be scoffed at! Forget being used to Cossies and being used to 300-400bhp being the norm, 350bhp on today's roads on an every day journey is A LOT of power. So BMW and Audi have great 3.0 litre diesel units and so have Mercedes but are we going to see more 6cyl and 8cyl high performance diesel motors being used in sports cars? Is the future going to be an Audi R8 with Audi's V12 TDI engine? Are we going to have more hybrid performance cars or high powered diesel cars? What would you prefer to see?
