I get around 50mpg out of my 58 plate 2L diesel passat.
The highest I ever got it was 61.7mpg on a motorway run.

im doing something wrong as ive got one hire at the min and im getting about 33-34 and on a run from manchester got 44, did have it down to 27 the other night
