Default Dilemma - Car or Bike?

In April im getting a tax rebate and decided to buy a car. I should have my license by then, if not a little later. But I'm on about £450 a month, and most insurance companies want over half that for insurance.

But my dad, aswell as a few mates, have suggested buying a 125cc motorbike instead. I got a quote of £250 a year (rather than a month! ) to insure. So now I'm genuinely considering getting one now. Not only that, but when I decide to get a car, I would have some no claims bonus (I think it carries from bike to car?). Also hopefully by october, when I'm 18, I'd be on real money rather than slave wages.

So logically, I should get a 125cc.

Problems though. Firstly, my mum isn't happy with me riding a motorbike. Her friends husband broke both his legs a few years back after coming off a motorbike (A real one, not a 125). Now my mum thinks all bikers end up like that. I have physical and medical tests this year so i'm not mad keen on being a cripple Also, I've never riden a motorbike before so I'm not at all confident on one, whereas I've done loads of lesson's in a car so I feel very comfortable and confident in one.

What would you do? Bike or car?

Thanks
