Default Clutch Issues

Hi all.

This was my first post when I joined, but looks like I posted in the wrong section, oops.

Anyway,

I need a little bit of advice on my clutch.
Its a mk4 fiesta with the 1.25 zetec engine.

My clutch is very high, but its not slipping at all, tested by using a higher gear at low speed and accelerating.
I've noticed that the first 2-3 inches you press the clutch pedal down that it feels spongy before any pressue is resistance is behind it.
Also, when my car is idling, I can hear a whirling sort of sound inside the car, but it dissapears when I press the clutch down.
And also, on the odd occasion, when changing down gears, it can be a little tricky to get it iinto first gear, doesnt happen often, but it happens, It's very stiff but can be pushed in if pushed a little firmer.

Any idea what the problems could be?

Thanks in advanced.

Jason
I know the noise is the clutch bearings now.

I think there may be a leak somewhere, where I am unsure.
Could that right?

Could a leak let air into the system and make the clutch feel soft/spongy like I am experiencing?

Cheers, Jason
