just been looking thru all my old pics on computer and found this...

now story behind it, is im a mechanic, and work mainly on coaches,
well i undertook a engine re-build of a VOLVO B12m engine that was knocking,

i'd never done one before but ploughed on anyway,
whn it came to taking the pistons out, this is what i found...







now i can clearly understand the reason/design of it!! mega strong heavy crown.
lightweight alluminum skirt...
held together by the pin,

my question... altho its not somthing i am going to do..
would it be possible to re-create a custom piston of this design for car engines??
and if so.... would there be any benefit in doing it?






now if somone knows of this design already in a car... ignore the thread and call me stupid lol!!
