Default mfi & 3 port bleed valves.

hi there, ive seen the opinion about wether bleed valves are good or bad. im on the fence, swaying toward the ''there ok if there left be once setup'' camp. my question is how should a 3 way bleed valve be fitted correctly. im of the understanding that it fits in line between the compressor and actuator but what about the 3rd/middle, downward facing stub? is this linked to the metering head like the amal valve. ive seen people refer to that 3rd stub be vented to atmosphere?? it sounds abit iffy to me, the former i see been more plausable but havent seen a definitive answer despite searches. venting to atmoshere sounds like a huge hotr spot for unwanted air entering the inlet somehow and leaning off resulting in expensive solder. can one of you gurus give me an answer to rid the doubt please, cheers fellas.
