this question has popped up before and i think devil developments tested the theory. IIRC the pump still broke during testing. there is huge debate as to the causes but i think its crank nose flex/harmonics that are the culprit.really early pumps dont seem to break though so maybe there is an issue with the material of the later pumps which has then been resolved in the latest zetec turbo namely the focus rs.
