As a ROUGH guide, when the engine is COLD you should be able to twist the cambelt 90 degrees on the long section between the inlet cam sprocket and the auxilary shaft. Once the engine warms up the slack in tghe belt will go. If it is quiet when cold then makes the noise when warm then the belt is too tight when cold.
