I think they are great cars, I have bought a civic type r as a winter smoker and its superb, 100% reliable, great fun, handles superbly, and you can drive it sensibly at low (well up to 5k) and get superb fuel economy or toe it about in high revs and have some half decent fun, knowing its very unlikely to break! Not many cars that can offer all that for around £3k!
