As you are on a budget do not but a cheapo "stage 3" head that some bloke has taken a grinder to. These are usually (9 times out of 10) worse than an untouched head.

Since you are on carbs now you will require a complete mfi or efi set up - along with the knowledge to do the installation correctly - could be expensive.

In my opinion find a good running 1.6 turbo engine complete - with all wiring and fuel system.

Or you may want to redo the normally aspirated 1.6 - twin Weber side drafts (40's),
solid lifter camshaft, higher compression pistons (RS1600i pistons), propper rebuilt head with 3 angle valve seats, ARP rod bolts, new engine bearings etc..
With all of this 120 HP is a reality - and 120 hp in a light car is very fun.

Your old 90 hp rated engine is probably only 60 or 70 HP unless it has been refreshed.
