My winter Cosworth procedure goes like this: leave tow rope and jump leads in boot, check coolant, oil and fuel. Drive. Simples.
Personally though if I were to have the luxury of a garage, I wouldn't disconnect the battery lead - they're easier to nick when the alarm's not squealing for attention. And it's an arse re-programming the radio stations.
