Why should one country have the ultimate defensive (or offensive) weapon, while another country cannot? Why should America continue to develope nukes (and they are working on small tactical nuclear weapons) while other countries are threatened with invasion if they even consider it? Why does the world turn a blind eye to Israel's nuclear programme?

Well, I believe fair is fair, but this is the real world and it doesn't work like that.

North Korea possessing nuclear weapons is a very bad thing.
If Iran possessed nuclear weapons it would be a very bad thing.

I do not think they would nuke the world, or America, but those countries are corrupt, and politically they are very unstable. Nuclear weapons are long term, and I just do not believe N.Korea or Iran could be trusted to secure them. Things could too easily 'go missing' or get 'lost' and its possible the weapons could get into the hands or terrorists or ultra religeous idealists. One weapon could do a lot of damage.

America/Britain/France/Russia/Israel or not so likely to let anything go missing. They are relatively stable. Pakistan/India maybe less so but still.

So, Nuclear weapons are a bad thing. In the hands of an unstable state / government they are even worse news. If the get into the hands of terrorists god help us.
Ban the lot of 'em. But America would never agree to that.
