Good to note! But as I say, I'm gonna pass those ones on now.
What I did notice about the pukka touring cars back in the day, was that they looked like they used something similar to these, but maybe used them on the wrong sides, and lifted them right up, so they're sitting nearly vertical next the the a-pillar/door frame. They hugged the car more like a DTM style mirror than sit proud the way folk are using them at the moment.
Having had a quick look at mine I think a quick dremel would be in order just to relieve a little material away and help it lift that high..
It's just a hunch - I haven't looked into it too much as I'm not using them - but might be worth a look. If you google Dick Johnson RS500 you might see what I'm on about!
