hi i am new to the site and to ford engines and was hoping for some advice.
i have just been given a 1988 xr3i cabriolet by my sister,it was running ok but very tappety until i took the rocker cover off the other day,what i found inside the cover was shed loads of solidified oil and i mean loads(quarter of carrier bag full!) once i had removed it all and made sure oil strainer and pump was clear i put new oil in(15/40 semi) and also new oil filter.
started it up and it sounded great! then when it started warming up it got very tappety and started miss firing and oil pressure light came on so swithed it off.
ive had lifters out and they only seem to have very very minimal wear on them.it was running fine until i cleaned away the sludge please help im a bit stuck as of what to try next. any help very much appreciated.
