Does it make any noise? It could be the motor as they do 'go'. Take the rear panel off and check the voltage to the motor.

Also (and this is a bit geeky) while you're at it swap the wiper arm for one from a Mk5 Astra Estate. It's a straight swap and looks a lot nicer than the spindly standard one.
