You dont need to clay before,if you only want to get rid of the metal contaminaiton just use ironx or the wolfs product as per my link,you can use clay to remove it but its a lot harder work and it costs more for a clay kit.
Ive had some iron contamination that was easly removed with claying,ive also had bad cases were claying was a very long process and iron x was far far quicker
