Just a quick one really since i've read different things.
I've got an engine issue with the 3i, in that it's eaten a valve in an epic fashion.
It's an EFi so it's got all the original EFi loom etc and i was considering zetec conversion since the EFi engines arent that easy to find these days tbh. A mk5 escort uses EEC-IV too but with a different ECU plugged into it, does this mean that the plug for ECU on the loom will be the same?
Basically i want to bolt the engine in, plug the zetec ECU into the car where it lives under the stereo and change a few pins round at the plug which connects the car to the 'engine loom' inside the bay. Is this not the easiest way?
This guide looks like they swap entire front end looms, but mine is part of the full car loom and i dont want to start cutting it out to put another one in if it's basically the same. Unless this is easy to do without removing the dash etc?
It all seems very similar; xr3i EFi is same engine and basic loom as 2i 8v, and that should be pretty similar to the 2i 16v which should be almost identical to the early escort 16v's. I just didnt want to have to touch the original loom since i can cut up and change the engine bit of the new loom.
It should be easier since it's already EFi but it's looking like it'd be easier to do an MFi at this moment in time, since i could just drop a full loom in and put the right power to the ecu.
