Hello mate, no they didn't come as standard, i think they were an optional extra or on the higher spec models, a rear wiper is not really needed on the saloon. But like you said the mounting hole for it is in the actual glass hence the reason most people don't retro fit one as it means changing the rear screen to. They are pretty rare as not many had them. My mk1 saloon does not have a rear wiper.
