I've had 3 of them an early 8 valve,a 16 valve and an EVO1 ...........out of all of them the 8 valve is bulletproof being derived from the Fiat 2.0 litre twincam that we saw in the Strada Abarth (had one of them as well.) very robust and rarely gives trouble until Lancia decided to put a 16v head on due to a design oversight they did'nt make the cambelt wide enough so subsequently the cambelt and overall width of the pulleys is a major weak spot which is why anyone in the know will change belts every 16,000 miles.Yes the gearbox's,diff's,driveshafts are all pretty weak and can't take anything more than 300bhp reliably hence everyone then has to move onto the heavy stuff which is expensive so not many big tuned ones about plus the engine management is very basic and well out of date which does'nt lend itself to tuning that well. All genuine cars are left hookers so difficult to drive fast in this country especially over taking, but on a brighter note you can get the thing to stand on its nose with a decent set of brakes and corner like its on rails even embarrasing the later modern stuff still...........i miss my EVOS like crazy but for some insane reason i've now got an Alfa SZ ...........totally untunable..........lol.
