Default How do you tax a car ?

Wierd circumstances.

Bought a car advertised with private plate.

Garage put new plate on car, so i drove it home on one day insurance.

Took us 4 weeks to insure it, which ive done today, as dvla had to update their DB that the new reg number corresponds to the car.

Tax ran out last night (wouldnt matter, as tax corresponds to private plate). Cant tax car, no log book and V5C has the private plate on it and not this new plate.

Is there a way round this or is it a case of twiddling my thumbs untill (IF) the logbook arrives, insuring the car sitting in my garage not being able to drive it ?

Pissing me right off all this palava, garage broke the law and should have either sold car with private plate or waited for it to be registered to the new numberplate (didnt know this till now!).
