Just an update,
Put new plugs, leads and airfilter on. Still does this except now, when it's up to temp and the revving problem has cleared it now runs a lot better.
Fixed one problem, just not the one I was aiming for.

He reckons he'd spoken with some one who said it could be the automatic choke. I know nothing about this, chokes are "before my time"
