a little update - the engine as fired and ran - abeit for a few seconds each time only.! ive stripped cleaned all contact points and rebuilt the dizzy today, refitted and tested for sparks on one of the leads on the head and it wanted to fire up first turn , after i removed new fuel pump relay so to clear overfuelling in engine , quickly and optmistically i replaced said relay and it was back as before just turning over - no hint of a splutter. remove relay and after a few cranks the engine wants to start up after the fuel starts to disperse.... finally does runs for 5 - 10 secs then dies, like it runs on fuel in the lines but wont with a pump relay in the loom. It also dies straight away when its running and push relay into pins.... ?!now bearing in mind that ive never tried to start it without a relay in as i also replaced the pump as wasnt getting fuel to engine , so maybe the dizzy thing has nothing to do with it ... as I had a good blue spark before.... so what could be the cause of this - too much fuel into engine - too much pressure ? bearing in mind ive not touched the co mixture screws at all ? any ideas that i can try ? also can someone confirm that it is indeed a pink replay that the mk3 xr3i uses as thats what was in it and what I bought to replace it....thanks
