It is bad news as most of the lazer speed traps
(usually installed in a van) are "Instant On" devices
As you said, that gives the driver too little time to react
as it sends the lazer beam to record your speed only
when the opperator presses the button. Within a second
your speed is recorded/logged together with a pic of car/reg plate.
Even more worrying, I noticed that in Weston S-M they now have
vans working AT NIGHT (i.e. in normal street lighting). So they
must be using low light cameras, and of course
much harder to see or notice these vans at night
