Martin - There were all sorts of variations on the symptoms because it was fundamentally a failure of the PCB structure with layer shorting or connection failure. The most interesting one was the complete speedo display failure when driving. That of course immediately causes you to crash!!

Dave - Could be VSS failure, but not likely as it doesn't usually affect the small dials. Also, as its an American vehicle its more than likely a MTX gearbox, so only one bolt to remove to change the VSS. Easy peasey.
