The ecu types
Level 1 ecu
- WD45.01 IAW045
Used in the 3 door Sierra Cosworth.
The case has an integral mounting bracket, a yellow mixture adjustment screw and the driver transistors are screwed down.
Level 6 ecu
- W45.06 IAW045
Used in the 2wd Sapphire Cosworth.
The case has an integral mounting bracket, a white mixture screw and the driver transistors are clipped down. Has roughly the same inputs as the level 1 but uses a few different ic types.
Level 8 ecu
-
WD48.08 IAW048/01
or WD48.08 IAW048/02
Used in the 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth.
It also has a white mixture screw but there isn't a case mounting bracket to differentiate it from the level 6. There are a lot more components inside due to the extra analogue inputs.
Red label ecu pre-cat model. Green label cat model.
P 8 ecu
- IAW048/P8
Used in the Escort Cosworth (Big turbo version only)
Externally the ecu looks like a L8 but the mixture screw hole isn't drilled through the case because there isn't a pot inside. The circuit board has now started to use surface mount chips but the eprom is still mounted in a socket. There appear to be at least 2 different types of ecu used - some have a 14pin ic where the circle is on the picture and some don't.(Note - The standard ecu doesn't have a baby board fitted, unlike the picture).
