Two key factors there:
1) the people replying to me were the daytime crowd who tend to be brighter
2) I was replacing a renault engine with a honda one, not a ford one that people have all sorts of emotional attachments to.
I think its a really good idea, far better to fit a ready to go engine than to spend thousands trying to tune a shopping car engine to make it into something it doesnt start as.
