has anyone come accross this before
Its quite common for the interference to cause breakthrough on your speakers if the radio is TXing on high power. Most run at between 4 and 20watts but in some remote areas, or areas where vehicles could cover a wide area the power is turned up to give a higher TX range to the repeater Nothing to worry about.
