you are right to stay away from sony, their home audio is good but car audio are generally wank! Alpine are excellent, but i find them too fiddly to use. I've always liked pioneer, find them easy to use and the sound quality is very good, would definately take a compromise of red lighting if i were you! On most units you can change the button colour anyway, have you checked you can't do this?
