100% spot on there IMHO, providing the powers that be scrap Road Tax & Insurance Premium tax, I see this as the fairest way of taxation.
Putting all the tax on fuel, means the more you use (and therefore use the resouce) the more tax you pay.
Instead of a tax disc, the DVLA should issue a disc that states its insured & MOT'd. If you're not displaying or cant produce the disc, its an uninsured, un road worthy car & the coppers can confiscate it!
I love cars, always have done and I always look after my car on a no expense spared basis.
What completely fucks me off, is when you come to buy a new(er) car from a dealer and all they give you is the book price, whether you've looked after the car or not.
So fuck it, I've got my 1.6 Focus Chic that I've had for 3 years now, come march.
Was OK when I bought it, but after having some panels re-sprayed, bought new wheels, fitted all my stereo system and upgrading the speakers and generally slowly getting it to the point where it'll be looking and running as good as the day it rolled off the production line, i'm loathed to get rid of it and trade it in as i'll get peanuts for it.
If you've just bought a new car, keep it, dont get bored with it after 3 years and trade in.
If you've got a car your happy with already and can continue to run it, keep on top of it, keep it running and dont bother getting rid you'll only get you're pants pulled down one way or another!
