They are already completely illegal. It's just that Eropean type approval takes presedence over UK law so if they are standard fit on the vehicle they are legal. They are not legal however for retro fit and never have been.
Be sensible about it and they are not a big issue and easy enough to swap back for the MOT if they even bother being funny about it
