An easier check than removing the timing cover
Would be to take the rocker cover off
And see if the rocker shafts are loose,
When the tensioner fails on these and the chain
Jumps, 9 times out of 10 the pistons hit the valves
Which then cracks the cam carrier, normally
On the inlet side.
If it has, it will need a cylinder head for definite,
Bottom ends are normally ok tbh.
