The first thing to do is check the fault codes. The early Impreza's did not give as much problems with the MAF as the 98 to 00 models. There are 2 black and 2 green connectors near the steering column under the dash. Connect these together and put the ignition on. Count the flash codes, long flash 10's, short flash 1's. Let me know what the numbers are, and I will tell you what to do next.
