I sold My van 12 months ago, the guy wanted it asap and the nearest dvla office to me is about 80 mile trip. So i agreed to sell him the van but i wanted my plate back. Being self employed i needed a replacement asap so sold my van on a saturday morning and arranged to pick my new one up on the sunday. Anyway i travelled with the van to a train station 40 miles away, didnt have to but the only way he could come and collect it(This was last year when the country was covered in snow) Was trying to help the guy. When i sold it to him he paid me and i said as a gesture of trust i gave him the amount of money back to put the plate on retention. Weeks past and he said he was waiting for log book to come back. My new van log book came back within 7 days!!! Months past and past, full of promises that he was going to do it. No joy. I got fed up of waiting after 9 months and put a post up on the forum i sold on it about him,and he txt me to say he was going to see a solicitor about me slandering him. Prick. I gave the guy the original plates back and told him to remove my plate asap(illegal spacing, ive had no bother with it in over 10 years). The guy also txts me and says he as be fined for illegal plates, ive no sympathy as i told him to remove them and as soon as he bought the van it was his responsibilty. so he says im selling the plate to go towards the fine etc. The plate isnt worth a fortune etc but its been on my vans for 10+ years and people recognise me easily by it. I know hes not obliged to return it or anything but im really frustrated that i trusted someone and they just shit on you, specially after i delivered it and gave him the money for the retention. I know there is nothing the police can do but the guy said he will scrap the vehicle when its time to and i will lose the plate.
