In my opinion, no. You might get lucky and find a good one, to give you an idea, mine was 2K and i would regard it as being a lucky find, rust wise etc, have a look at my resto thread.

Not very, again this may spark argument. They are 20 years old. If you can find one with an EFI conversion as generally these will be alot more reliable.

3) Are the Turbo's prone to failing?

Not really, unless its an old turbo or watson has turned the wick up too much.

4) What are they like in the snow with the standard wheels and all weather tyres?

I can't answer this one from first hand experience, but with normal width tyres i can imagine them being very good, i was surprised by how much traction mine had for a fwd. LSD helps a lot.

5) What's the main things I should look out for, apart from the obvious on an 20 year old+ car?

Rust, rust and lots of rust. Sun roof, floor, sills, rear wheel arch, front wing bumper mounts, wind screen pillars, under boot seal. None of it will (hopefully) be too terminal.
