they have smaller blocks of rubber so the weight of the car is more focused so will push through the soft snow to a hard surface to grip on below

and the difference between brands i would imagine is the same difference as 'normal' tyres

Red bull - my dad says they made quite a difference, but still need to drive right to get the most out of them
