Did you use the ST170 alternator? The charging through the alternator is controlled by the ST170 ECU
There is something seriously wrong, the ST170 engine does run hot but what you describe is WAY beyond normal, there should be no smoke anywhere but from the end of the exhaust. Get that Lambda sensor right for starters. The conversion looks like a bit of a hash job from them pics
