Because the readership figure is higher. When we send out reader surveys we ask how many people read your copy. Our average is 2.5 people per copy, so we simply multiply that by our circulation figure. It's useful for advertisers, as it shows them how many people will see their advert.
The only circulation figure that's official is the ABC one. Go to
http://www.abc.org.uk/ and type in a magazine. Ours has fluctuated in recent months, and the month when it snowed was a crippler, hence the ABC is less than we currently sell. Any magazine NOT declaring an ABC has something to hide - i.e. a very low circulation.
