Cams will give it a rougher idle, I would check the vaccum pipe first as this is common for splitting, it's under the inlet manifold and has a 'T' piece (I think it's part of the PCV) also check the breather as well. As to the WD4O you want to spray it near the joint, the idea is if theres a leak the WD40 will change the idle momentarily.
