i cant see it coming back quickly if its properly sorted, although it will come back. get a powerful wire brush on an angle grinder and dig ALL of it out until its all shiny metal, genolite (or equivalent) the area, then primer it, filler it etc etc then paint it, im sure for now it will come up fine
