There is no need unless you suspect something is wrong? So long as the fuel filter is good.

MOST importantly is the fuel pump wiring, the standard wiring degrades due to the age and so the pump doesn't get the power needed you want to see alternator voltage when the pump is UNDER load, this needs to be right whatever pump you have.

As said it depends on what valve the author of the chip has written for. Standard pressure is 3.5 BAR, I am pretty sure MSD write for standard fuel pressure on most chips?
