Compared to a good set of discs, rim brakes are shit.....even magura's. Touch of damp or mud and they just dont work, and if you get pads aggressive enough to cut through it they wear out in 5 minutes.

However at your price point and probable usage the v brakes will be better than the cable disc unless you fall lucky with some avid or shimano ones, which i doubt.

Cheap disc brake bikes suffer with poor kit too as the cash is spent on the disc brakes and hubs.
