Had this with AJC's red RS1600i but fortunately it never got hot enough to melt completely despite having it's head kicking everywhere.

I put a sleeving on the wire to protect it but that ended up melting. The main plug and harness remained fine though. Never got chance to give it any protection as he sold it on.
