Get down to your local auctions and buy the best car you can with £800, just make sure it's got loads of MOT and low mileage. Spend the other £200 on fixing it up and advertise it for £2000 or nearest offer. This means you've got a lot of give on the price and it means that the usual timewasters will avoid ringing you to see if you'll swap it for a broken lawnmower etc. You will make a profit if you do it right and it really isn't hard at all.
