It's oil on the pistons.... it wiped off easily with a dry towel.. and the chamber is more carbon based.. took a bit of oil to remove it The exhaust manifold spilled out oil when it was removed and left upside down?

Edit- what clearance should I have down the side of the piston and wall? should it be the same for every quarter way round... maybe the oil was coming up from the bottom
