hi, i`ll give some background info then i`ll tell you my problem if anyone can help.

4x4 saff cosworth stage 1 running 20 p.s.i of boost 285 bhp / 325 lb/ft torque, ally rad, breather tank,samcos etc.. full top end rebuild around 12 months ago including all new seals,gaskets,full set of hydraulic lifters, new belt and tensioner,new valves and guides and sensors, everything was replaced, i know this as i did it all myself. at the same time i also changed the oil ,all filters and the fuel pump . car starts on the turn of the key runs sweet and pulls like a bastard! and has done so for the last twelve months ,now for my problem.

a couple of days ago whilst sat in traffic just ticking over i was over taken buy a cloud of silver/grey smoke that came from the exhaust tail pipe which strongly smelt of petrol, this has now happen a couple of times but the car never stutters or misses? yesterday i was out and had to give it some beans ( sorry but i had to ) this is the senario : slowing down 3rd gear 50/60 mph on over run ( usually starts licking out flames but the flamer kit was off!!!!!) when going back onto the gas she puffed out another cloud of silver/ grey smoke , same as before no hesitation or missing just a cloud of smoke . this only happens occasionally when ticking over or after going back on the gas after overrun and at no other time. it does not happen when booting her and lifting off the gas only when going back on it??

i have also noticed that number 4 inlet hydraulic lifter has started to tap a little .now am i right in thinking that this could be slightly sticky and be allowing fuel through the valve when it should be closed or am i completly off track , like i said shes has not lost any performance and it only happens occasionaly on tickover but everytime you go back on the gas after over run . any help or advise would be massively appreciated as frankly its embarassing sat at the lights in a minter of a cossie with a twat in a corsa sat next to you when your overtaken by a cloud of smoke!
