You can go to your local sports centre - they should be able to arrange lessons for you. If you can, get a one to one - you'll get far more out of it. As a swimming instructor myself I can tell you that you would be suprised how many adults cant swim. Adult classes are always pretty full.
Dont feel silly about it either - everyone has to start somewhere - better to learn no matter how late in life.
oh and yes... you should learn to swim before doing any watersports 100%

i really want to learn, and think i will be able to.
i remember as a kid i could swim with floats

(yeah, sounds dumb!)
but couldnt without them
so i just dont seem to be able to keep myself above the water
gotta get down the sports centre or wherever because i cant really practice in my backgarden, without having a swimming pool
