anyone know how different .NET is to standard visual basic as im coding in VB as i dont know vb.net or have it

im writing a program for children with speech difficulties that use a card system to communicate, the cards system is called picture exchange communication system or PECS if you wanna look it up

im trying to write the program to allow them to communicate using text to speech output by select the image they need, like they would from a folder of images that they carry to communicate

hope this clarifys it a bit, if you wanna know more just ask
