Shamlessly stolen from one of my vdub forums...
But hopefully shows that a scooby engine fits striaght it.
So next time you see a bug at the lights and dont hear the high pitch exhaust it could be a 2.5wrx in the back.
This is a 1958 small window car with a genuine golde sunroof.
The car is in the latter stages of restoration, requiring mainly bolt on goodies, suspension essentials and usual tinkering.

The body and chassis have been fully restored, so this is an ideal project for a beginner or indeed someone who doesnt want de ja vu from the hand full of previous beetle surgeries they may have performed on past cars.
I purchased the car from TSR dragracing about a year ago, the restoration work was all done buy/for them as this was a demo car for their subaru conversions. So as you can immagine the work is to a high standard. (Ive been informed the previous owners before that were Cambridge Football Club)
The 3 pics below are of the car when TSR had it

The rear has been very neatly boxed out to accept the scooby engine and also the front apron is fully set up for a radiator. Its also fitted with custom radiator pipes running the length of the chassis.
The car is running on a 67 chassis with Full IRS rear end, and a neat 1600GT gearbox (ideal for the scooby lump)
The engine is an EJ18 from a subaru Impreza, and has done approximatly 70k. It comes complete with its matching loom, fuse boxes and ECU as well as manifold. There is also an inline fuel pump and regulator for the fuel injection. Not only this but its been treated to a brand new timing belt and tensioner. Its currently sitting in the rear of the car, basically to give an idea of how neat a conversion it is, and also for ease of moving. It does still require an adapter to fit it properly. Or if you really wanted to go to town, the full IRS means you could run a 6 rib bus box or a porsche box in with ease mated to a bell housing.
The chassis is currently LHD, but due to there being nothing connected up, its a very simple procedure on a beetle to have it RHD. As mentioned its IRS and as it previously had a running engine, the fuel injection return pipe is already installed in the tunnel. Its also got a new dual circult mastercylinder fitted with all new brake lines and braided hoses through out.
The chassis was imported from better climates, so at present has no V5. Im currently in the process with DVLA of sorting this out and have the paperwork here for this. Ive decided to not proceed any further as its really depends on what the new owner has planned for the car and also makes sence for their name to be on the logbook from the start. Its debatable wether it will be assigned an F registration or an age related plate based on the body, but this will be sorted out during the completion of the log book approval. Its not as daunting as it sounds and is the same procedre as importing any bug or bus from sunny california.
The front beam is a BRAND NEW item from Big Boys Toys, its been around for a few years now, its only purpose so far haveing being used to move various projects around. So although its no longer shiny and chip free, its a rock solid new beam that has never seen the road before. Its currently running on some old trailing arms and hubs I had spare, these will require a referb, or most likley you will (as I had planned) fit new arms and dropped spindles with disk brakes.
The car is rolling on a pair of wellers, but the car can be supplied on a standard set of steels also.
The body is fitted with new window rubbers, a brand new set of front wings (good quality thick metal) and a new pair of DS Molding fiberglass wings at the rear. These have been used as they are a perfect fit and are much stronger than their metal counterparts, the reason for this is the rear apron can then be unbolted for easy and instant access to the engine. Also fitted are a new set of gloss black running boards.
The golde sun roof is in amazing condition, and operates like new. the current vinal is ripped but there is a new black one to go on so fear not.
There are many spares with the car, such as;
Sloping lights
New black rag top top vinal !!!!!
Interior convertable oval sunvisor/rear view mirror!
INDY scat gear shifter
Good condition rear bench and high back front seats
Small window correct wipers and motor
New battery
Spare rear screen
Door handles, catches etc.
Switches etc
Various rubbers and fittings.
To simplify a long story, when the car had its respray, the doors, bonnet and boot lid were stolen/taken from the car.
The first thing I did after buying the car was to source a set of small window doors, correct w deck lid and long bonnet, all of which are getting hard to find and expensive!
They come complete with the handles/locks, glass and mechs etc. All will obviously require some work to get to the standard of the rest of the body, and will need painting.
Ive most likley missed something, but hopefully you have a good idea of what is here and the potential of the project.
Time for some pics!
Here you can see the difference between the small and larger windowes on my red 68 and white 67.
